TurboGears is a Python web application framework, just like Django. Yet annother framework. Yes, it is. Now, here comes the question: Django or TurboGears? Some articles give the comparison (Jeremy Jones, Gustavo Picon). I might be using both of them later. Let me see which one I will go for.  Django is not its 1.0 yet…., so shall TurboGears go first?

Let’s check out the following examples:
Example 1:

In this example, a is a class attribute and ai.a initially has the same copy of the value of A.a. But when ai.a = 2 is done, ai.a now is actually a data attribute/instance attribute. Even A.a is changed to 3, ai.a is still 2 as ai is an instance and it has its own data attribute copy.

Example 2:

Obviously, self.a is different from A.a because it is a data attribute since the setA() is called.

Example 3:

self.a initially is the class attribute because A.a initially is 1, and when A.a =2 is executed, a.printA() which prints self.a shows the change of self.a to be 2.  When a.setA(23) is called, self.a is set to be 23, and the data attribute is changed to be 23.

So, I guess if there is a data attribute has the same name as class attribute, the initial value of the data attribute will be the reference to the class attribute object. When a new value is assigned to the data attribute, the data attribute will have the new value then.

The HTTP/1.0 request gets an HTTP/1.1 response. The TCP connection never get FIN to end the conversation. So the client waits forever.  The problem was resolved by using the approache from Etienne Posthumus. The thread is http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-list/2004-April/256360.html.

Subclass the Transport class with you class (here PersistTransport), and use the connection object from httplib to send the request. Now the header of request looks like this:

Remember, don’t put .py after settings even though the settings.py is under mysite/ folder.
6. Restart apache, you will see the welcome page shows up when you typing url: http://youwebsite/mysite
One thing to notice is that Django’s URLConfs won’t trim the "/mysite/". That is, it will receive /mysite/myurl instead of /myurl when you set up urls.py to match any /myurl responses.

Decoupling the application code from the infrastructure frameworks is one of the many benefits of using POJOs. They also simplify development because rather than being forced to think about everything – business logic, persistence, transactions, etc. – at once, you can focus instead on one thing at a time. You can design and implement the business logic and then, once that’s working, you can deal with persistence and transactions.

Spring, Hibernate, EJB3 are using POJO objects in the frameworks.  It’s a spectacular design of using simple idea to solve complex problems.

My real goal is to check the whether most web sites are ready for the 3G iPhone which is gonna realse soon.  There are several websites I cared most: google reader, facebook, amazon, eBay, and  MS Live.  Google reader has its mobile version.

It turns out facebook has not ready to provide a user-friendly mobile version of its site.  Amazon has done a good job of providing its mobile interface.  EBay is not ready as well. Neither MS Live.com. 

I think 3G phone will bring a lots of mobile users to the Web.  What applications should attract those users will be explored greatly in the following years.  I guess the following areas might have a great market attracting mobile users: news, vedio sharing, online music, social network, search, GPS related applications.  Let’s see who is going to be hotest Web applications in the near future.

Though a great break through is still required to make Semantic Web a giant leap for Web, I believe Semantic Web will come soon. How fast it moves forward depending on how automatic the Web can be.  If the interactions from human is only focused on the drafting the content itself, the creating, deploying, publishing, accessing can be all automatic, we will gain a great benefit from the Semantic Web technology.  Because machine readable means well defined and well strutted.  When the information on the Web most can be processed by machines (agents), it must be well structured and can be accessed effectively.  That’s will be the real generation of Web (in another buzz word, Web 3.0).
